Weingut Peter Lauer is one of the jewels of the Saar, with a history spanning nearly two centuries. Located in Ayl, the estate produces Riesling—and Riesling only—from some of the most important grand cru vineyard sites of the region, such as the lauded Kupp, Feils, Schonfels, Kirn, and Stirn. Under Florian Lauer, the fifth generation to run the estate, individual vineyard sites and sub-plots are vinified separately to produce Rieslings that speak unimpededly of their origin—each with as much style and intrigue as the last.
Tremendous attention is paid to this very idea of identity in the wines. Each wine that Lauer produces carries a number referring to the individual foudre in which it is aged. Wines from each specific plot undergo their élevage in the same numbered vessel year after year, ensuring that the individual character of each wine is never skewed.
One has come to expect nothing short of the exceptional at Weingut Peter Lauer, where the wines are as refined and dramatic as the sites from which they hail. Every new vintage leaves us with a sense of enthusiasm and awe that has yet to recede.
